The Real Story of "Money" in the USA.

My review (Amazon.com) of a classic book, "The Truth in Money Book."

This is a gem of a book. It is written in a simple dialog form, which I found welcome in the treatment of a rather complex subject. In 1913, the Federal Reserve System was foisted upon us, as a substitute for a national bank, which many Americans (including American presidents Jefferson and Jackson) fiercely resisted. This system is based on money as debt, not commodities, not anything of substance, and is set up in such a way so as to guarantee a steady concentration of wealth in certain hands, and the steady impoverishment of America.

Under this system, the U.S. Treasury actually borrows money from the Fed, which then credits this money (from created from"thin air") to an account, and charges interest upon it. And, the commercial banks connected with the System constantly create more of this "funny money" every time, they provide a loan. One aspect of this lunacy, is that there is never enough money "in the system" to pay off all the loans and interest, so someone is always losing... slipping into bankruptcy. Even those not quite at that point...many of us...all too often feel that we are "treading water." So many, in recent years have lost their jobs and homes, or are working at a low-pay "service vector" job, it isn't funny. Of course, much of this is directly related to corruption during the last three presidential administrations.

Though not specifically mentioned in this book,* I will add that some very strange policies and behavior of the Fed frequently lead to panics, crashes and inflation, which truly do benefit SOMEONE, but not you and me. This is like the biggest Ponzi scheme in history...and along with things as the recent bank bail-out, and the damn NAFTA and CAFTA treaties (and lunatic and illegal wars overseas), have meant that American is rapidly going down the tubes.

This book is a "must-have." See if you can find a copy at a reasonable price, perhaps at your "American Opinion" bookstore, which is where I got mine some years ago.

For more on the "Fed," please see another classic, "The Secrets of the Federal Reserve," by Mullins. Pure gold. Lots of disinformation "out there," but not in these two books.

The Truth In Money; 4th ed.

Recent MBA graduate from Xavier with whom I work read this during his studies then recommended it to me. Upon finishing the book readers will posess a thorough knowlege of: the US monetary system; the mechanics of our money system; the extent to which our money system controls our lives; the inherent problems with our money system; and the solutions that would dramatically improve life for every American.
Best of all: the book is exceptionally easy to read, written in a narritive format with effective examples that make our seemingly convoluted money system seem down-right intuitive.

About the Author
Captain Scotty Smiley is the Army’s only active-duty blind officer. He lost the use of both eyes when a car bomber blew himself up in front of Scotty’s vehicle. A recipient of the bronze star and Purple Heart, he currently teaches the core course in leadership at West Point. Scotty and his wife Tiffany are the proud parents of two young children.

Doug Crandall served in the Army for thirteen years, including the last five at West Point where he was an award-winning leadership teacher and later the Executive Officer to the Dean. Doug now lives in Richland, Washington, with his wife Stephanie and their children.

4 Hours

I pre-ordered this book at the recommendation of my Military Science teacher, who was CPT Smiley's platoon sergeant at the time of the VBIED attack that took his eyesight. I received it on a day where I was going to be on a plane for 5 hours, after going an entire night with no sleep finishing homework. I opened the book in the airport with no intention of actually reading it, because I had every intention of sleeping on the plane.

I finished the book in 4 hours.

Maybe I have a slightly biased opinion of the book- I have been privileged enough to personally meet CPT Smiley and hear him talk about his experiences, as well as being present at his book signing a few days after I finished it. But regardless, the story is touching, honest, and heart wrenching. I cried on the plane twice, both times having the person next to me choked up describing the book and the parts of it. I also caught myself laughing and smiling to myself, rejoicing where the author rejoiced.

I have truly never read a better book. CPT Smiley's story of the return of his faith, as well as the amazing faith of his wife, is unparalleled. I have recommended this book to EVERYONE I have talked to. You will not be able to put the book down once you start it.

Almost finished reading, and have thoroughly enjoyed hearing (Yes! It reads just as I would imagine Scotty telling his story aloud -- which is nice.) The imagery, thoughts, feelings are well-explained so I "get it." His faith is so real, complete with the mountains and valleys to strengthen and deepen any reader's own beliefs. Plus, my kid sister is good friends with Scotty and his in-laws, so had to finally snatch a copy for our home library. Thank you to Scotty, his family, and all our service men and women everywhere. God bless you always!

Great Inspirational Story

I first heard about Scott Smiley when watching NBA Today while working out one lunchtime. His talk with the 2006 US World Championships basketball team was brought tears to many eyes. Later, when I found that my former Cadet Basic Training squad leader Doug Crandall was co-writing a book with Scotty, I was hooked and have been eagerly anticipating the launch for over a year. The book definitely doesn't disappoint. Scotty pulls no punches on his feelings of isolation and hopelessness but also shows that God has much more in store for him than he can imagine. When I feel down in the dumps, I try to remember Scotty and that I need to get over my minor problems. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

On November 14, 2002, the 100th anniversary of the world famous Teddy Bear will be celebrated. The origin of the Teddy Bear stems from an occasion when President Theodore Roosevelt visited the wilderness of Mississippi in hopes of killing a black bear. He was guided on this hunt by Holt Collier, a former slave, Confederate veteran (yes–amazing though it sounds), Texas cowboy, Mississippi lawman, and noted pioneer. He is known to have killed over 3,000 bear in his lifetime, more than Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett combined. Roosevelt, who also hunted with Collier in Louisiana in 1907, called him "the greatest hunter and guide I have ever known."

Collier killed many white men, several in Mississippi. One exciting incident in his biography is a detailed description of the gunfight at Washburn's Ferry where Collier out-drew the notorious Louisiana outlaw Travis Elmore Sage. He was prosecuted only once–for the murder of a Union captain after the Civil War–but he was acquitted. Collier was famous nationally during his lifetime, but the racial atmosphere in Mississippi for the last eighty years kept his remarkable story from being told. There is no detailed and authoritative work on Holt Collier or the origin of the Teddy Bear other than this book.

Minor Ferris Buchanan is a native Mississippian. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1973 with a degree in History and English, graduated from Mississippi College School of Law in 1978, and has been a litigation attorney for twenty-three years. He has researched the life of Holt Collier for a decade over archival collections through much of the country.

Fascinating story

Holt Collier was one of Mississippi's most interesting minor historical figures. His life, his presence as a man transcended the times in which he lived. Mr. Buchanan's well written book tells Collier's fascinating story, bringing to life a man little known outside of Mississippi.

I noticed that one reviewer insists that there were no black confederate soldiers. There is considerable history to the contrary. Not only did some blacks fight for the South, but so did Native Americans, Hispanics, and various orientals, particularly men of Filipino origin from Louisiana. I have read that two of the sons of the original Siamese twins, actually part Thai, Chinese and Malay, fought for the Confederacy. In addition to Jewish soldiers, one of the most important members of the Confederate government, Judah Benjamin, was Jewish.

A Great Biography of a Little Known Historical Figure

Although this book would probably be considered politically incorrect by the black community because it relate Collier's devotion to the South and the Confederate cause, it fills a void that's long existed in telling the true history of Mississippi's past. This book takes us through Collier's entire life from slavery through his final years in retirement when he became invisible and forgotten in the annals of history. It also does a good job in telling the story of Teddy Roosevelt bear hunt that led to the creation of the "Teddy Bear" as a result of the Nast cartoon. And it tells us that the legend that grew out of that hunt was in many ways incorrect or an oversimplification of the event.

Minor Buchanan does not approach this as a quick book project to make a few bucks by assembling a collection of anecdotes he collected around the state. He poured all his free time into research for quite a long time before even getting to the point of putting together a cogent retelling of Holt Collier's life. I've had the pleasure of knowing Minor for some years and can say that I have seen how devoted he has been to this project and how much he likes to talk about the history of this unique individual, especially things that he learned that simply couldn't be fit into the book's written word.

Oh wow book 2 was even better. I am completely enjoying this series and cant wait for book 3 to come out. Ms. Vickery has spun yet another amazon story in her immortal series, I an delighted with the full stories and adventure to keep you page turning and not wanting to put them down. i am always blown away at the imagination that writers have and Ms Vickery is a wonder with her telling.

“Can I get you some refreshment?” Angela asked. “Ambrosia perhaps?” Was she kidding? He hadn’t had ambrosia in several millennia, and where would they have procured it, anyway? “My daughter teases. We weren’t expecting you so soon. It hasn’t yet fermented properly.”

Anshar is god of the sky Trying to avoid a meeting has no idea how he falls form the sky and impales his self on a wood and then tranquilized by the enemy PP force . That isnt even the worse part of the whole thing or the best depending on how things turn out for him. Should he Kill is enemy or thank his cousin for what is about to happen in his life.

Lenore Crest has lead the Charter for the Dagon the God working against the 13 that have been punished. When fate or a evil mastermind step in to fix things there way how will she like being used and left out. Worse when she starts thinking about the enemy in a different light and her boss has messed with her one to many times.

Taken By Storm took me...well, by storm! The first book blew me away, but this book picked me up and threw me down and then lifted me up again! Holy cow, it was spectacular! Full of action, sizzling sex, and some wild and sexy characters. I was intrigued with Anshar since Rock Hard. He seems so laid back and fun, but he has some secrets that both shocked me (in a VERY good way) and had me biting my lip. Now, to say Lenore was a kick-ass heroine would be putting it mildly. She was a total bad ass and I LOVED her for that! At first she was on the wrong side of things, fighting WITH the bad guys, until after some sexy seduction from Anshar, she starts seeing things in a whole new light.

I LOVE how LJ Vickery writes her stories! They are incredibly interesting with phenomenal characters and great storylines. The romance is intense and the paranormal elements will enchant you as well as keep you on the edge. Taken By Storm may be my favorite one as of yet in this incredible series! The sex is super hot and the action is edgy and intense. A perfect book to get the readers hearts pumping and blood flowing hotly through the veins.

Well I received Taken by Storm Book 2 after I finished Rock Hard Book 1. I just had to keep read on, I'm addicted. What an appropriate name for this book, because that is exactly how I feel. The first book was remarkable keeping you on pins and needles, than Oooooooo Ms. LJ Vickery did the most miraculous job writing this story, each page flows thru to the next and I can't put it down. There's a battle coming the secret puritan society then you got� Nergal and Erra and the 13 Gods.
All Lenore Crest has ever been told her whole life was that the 13 Gods were very evil so she fought them. Than Anshar literally fell out of the Sky right smack dab in from of Lenore and she tranquilizer gun aimed at him and shoot.
